In Memoriam

I have had many pets over the years, mostly cats. This is a tribute to all the boys (and one girl) that I have had and lost over the years.

Petey the Pug

Petey passed away in August 2013. Read more about him.

Miss Creole

Miss Creole was adopted from Animal Rescue New Orleans in 2007. She was already declawed so she had a habit of nibbling on people. She was my cuddle buddy-I never had another cat that liked to be cuddled up like a teddy bear. After i got Carlito in 2009, Miss Creole became increasingly more annoyed becasue he would always try to play with her and she wasn't interested. I started letting her go into the back yard because it made her happy and she was too fat to jump the fence. Over the months, she lost weight and got more ambitious about leaving the yard. She was last seen on July 4, 2009. I searched for her everyday for weeks, canvassed the neighborhoods around me, put up countless signs. Losing her was very painful.

Georgie

Georgie was another cat adopted from Animal Rescue New Orleans. He had such a great personality. I only had him for a few months before he dissapeared. I was bringing in a new piece of furniture and in the two minutes we had the door open, he ran out and was never seen again.

The Lost Boys

I lost five amazing cats due to Hurricane Katrina. My oldest cat was Charlie Bear. He was a gift from one of my friends on my 18th birthday, so Charlie was around 11. He was starting to show his age and was losing his sight, but he remained an incredibly sweet cat. He would sleep in the bed with me every-night, usually on my head.

Timmy was another cat I had had for a long time. I adopted him when he was a baby. He was timid and would never come out if anyone else was in the house, but he loved my dad and me. His favorite thing to do was sit in my dad's lap.

Floppy Cat, or Mr. Flip, was a cat that I got when I was living near the University of New Orleans for my final year. My roommate would feed him so I got to know him. One day he came into the house and was injured, so I brought him to a vet and he spent a week in the hospital. I also got him fixed. He went from a skinny mini to a full blown 19 pound panther. He was the neighborhood cat and everyone in our neighborhood in mid-city loved him. I loved to scratch the top of his tail because it made him stick out his tongue.

Peanut was adopted by Floppy. I opened the door one day to let Floppy in and he came in with a small feral kitten. I eventually got hold of him and brought him to the vet to get fixed. He was a beautiful cat that would let you pet him but did not like being held-he was always a little feral.

The last cat I adopted before Katrina was Jonah. A friend told me about him, that one of his friends had to move and Jonah needed a new home. I liked him right away, but unfortunately, Peanut would bully him, so he preferred to stay outside. The last thing I did before I evacuated was let Jonah out so the others wouldn't pick on him, and I said goodbye to Floppy who was sitting right by th door.
